Healthy ageing · Foundation guide

Move for the life you want to keep living.

Think beyond burning calories: movement also supports strength, function and everyday wellbeing.

All movement counts

Walking, cycling and everyday activity can contribute to an active life. If you are inactive, start with manageable amounts and increase gradually.

Include strength

WHO recommends 150–300 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults, or an equivalent amount of vigorous activity, plus muscle strengthening on at least two days. Older adults should also include activities that develop balance and strength.

Adapt it to you

Choose activity that fits your abilities and circumstances. If a health condition or mobility limitation affects you, seek guidance about an appropriate starting point. Activity supports healthier ageing; it cannot guarantee extra years of life.
